Private commissions
The Clockwork Girl
My client loved the look and feel of my Original Character Concepts enough to request not one but two commissions based on that style. The Clock Work Girl is an original character from a story he was working on at the time.
The Grey Ronin
The Grey Ronin is the second concept my client requested. I was asked to leave this character’s identity open to interpretation, including gender.
Just a Girl & Her Pet at the End of the World
One of my largest paintings to date! I was given an awesome amount of creative freedom on this project. My client requested a zombie/post-apocalyptic theme with an attractive and scantly clad (yet fierce) woman reclining on a throne, and a zombie slave girl chained at her feet. No blondes.
Fallout 3 meets Tank Girl meets Mad Max. Yes, please.
A Princess of Mars
As I was working on a sketch card project that involved drawing Dejah Thoris for the first time, I realized I desperately needed to draw her again. One of my clients happily obliged me.
The Sword in the Stone
This Arthurian Legend inspired piece was commissioned as a gift. No characters needed, just a beautiful scene in an enchanted forest, and loads of details.
The Snow Fell and the Castle Rose
This was, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful scenes described in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. When my client requested it, I knew immediately that I wanted to try to capture a soft, ethereal atmosphere. There could be no harsh black inks in the final art.
This is one of the last moments of Sansa's innocence. As she built her snow castle, she found herself at home in Winterfell, happy, content, and once again with the family she had lost. I took a few liberties here to lend a little symbolism to the scene. While in the book she was hiding in the Vale under the guise of Alayne Stone, I wanted her brief internal sense of being Sansa Stark to show through entirely.
I sent a quick scan my final line art to my client for his approval before I started painting. As it turns out, he fell in love with the delicate shading I added to help guide my watercolors, and he requested a second version of the piece with just the pencils. I painted the watercolors over the original drawing, but I also printed the line art on smooth bristol paper, which I then rendered fully in pencil.
The Wheel Of Time
In 2014, a prospective client approached me about a series of illustrations based on characters from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time fantasy novels. He wanted a trio of characters drawn in the same style as my Original Character Concepts. Armed with a few excerpts from the series, some solid character descriptions, and a notebook full of scribbles, I did my best to pull these three protagonists from their fictional realm and give them form. Aside from managing to really please my client, the support I have received from individuals among the Wheel of Time fan base itself has been pretty amazing. It brings me great joy to know that fans feel I did their beloved characters justice. Alas, I fear there is little I can do for anyone who was not aware Rand loses a hand, but the internet is nothing if not a stew pot of spoilers.
